They are often the dreams that affect us and confuse us the most, as well as being exceptionally vivid.

And understanding a recurring dream is potent!

You can experience intense release, relief, calmness, clarity and peace once you have understood the message. Your life will change because something inside has moved on.

Once you have understood what your recurring dream is telling you, you will find you do not have it again. The mind can now concentrate on it's next message!
For several years I had a recurring dream of being chased by a man in black. He would take different forms but I always knew that it was the same person. In the beginning of the dream I would notice him hiding behind a tree or wall, I would start walking very fast away from him, then start running, trying so hard to escape from him.

I felt as though he were trying to kill me. As the dream progressed he would get closer and closer until at the end we would be face to face. At that point I would be so scared I would wake up trembling, with my heart racing and in a cold sweat. These dreams troubled me for a long time - I even became frightened to go to sleep.

I took this dream to therapy for help in analyzing it's meaning and I learnt some very useful tools during that session! My therapist said, "Maybe the man in your dream is trying to tell you something and that's why he is chasing you." That had never occurred to me, but I now recognise that that is nearly always what underlies dreams where we are "being chased". The man in black was a part of myself that had a message for me. As I connected with him in my mind I asked him what it was he wanted to tell me.

He told me that I had been hiding myself in the passive feminine side of my personality and had completely blocked out my stronger and more powerful masculine side. He knew I was frightened of this side to my personality but without integrating it and accepting it I would never be happy.

Consequently I did work hard to accept this part of myself which I had previously rejected and became a more whole and functional human being. I never had that dream again.

There are a few nuggets of wisdom here. One is that if there is someone in your dream and you don't know what they are there for - ask them! Don't assume you know what they want.

The second is that we can relate nearly everything in our dreams to a part of ourselves.
