Step 1
As you are going to sleep see in your mind as clearly as possible the problem you are facing. See the people involved, the feelings involved - yours and others (if you are aware of them) and the situation as it stands currently. Don't judge it or get embroiled in thinking about it, just view it.
As much as possible look on the situation as an observer.
(see below if you find this difficult or are not sure how to do this).
Step 2
Then ask your unconscious/higher self to give you a dream that will:
- explain what's really going on and/or
- give you advice about the best way to proceed that honors all people involved.
Make your intention heartfelt and clear. Start your sentence with "I want....". You might also want to say why you want a solution: - for instance, "because I care about myself and John and I don't want us to carry on hurting each other."
You can also put in a clause asking your mind to show you the information as clearly as possible so that the dream is easy to interpret.
Step 3
Then simply let go and go to sleep.
Trust that you will get the information you need.
You may need to do this a few nights in a row, but you will receive guidance.
Write down the dream if you have time as this will help to consolidate the information you have received.
Step 4
Act on the information you have been given. Whether it be making a decision, talking with the other people involved or changing an aspect of your lifestyle get on and do it!

Imagine yourself sitting on the moon looking down at the earth. See the earth rotating very, very slowly. Find the continent where you live; then the country; then the town. See yourself and anyone else that is in your current situation. Simply watch and listen.
You may get some insight simply form doing this exercise.
What I most often feel is compassion for myself and anyone else that's involved as I watch us struggle to make sense of the situation.
Often I will also see that the situation is actually not much to worry about and will resolve itself in due course.

Your mind will be more than happy to oblige since the whole purpose of dreaming is to help you maintain mental, emotional and spiritual health which only comes by moving forward through problems.
Don’t confuse this technique with some kind of mind control - it would be better described as a form of mind release. Only by being genuinely open to the information we are given can we gain truly insightful answers. So don’t think about the solution you imagine or assume you want.
