The major hurdle for us in understanding our dreams is being honest about what they are telling us because we are so often caught up with denial, repression and other defence mechanisms that we don't want to see.

Have a look at this dream that I interpreted:

"I dreamt I was in a church getting married (to the man I am married to in real life). I had a veil on which had a little hole in it. As I was walking down the aisle, I kept peeking through the hole but I didn't want to - I was trying really hard not to look through it."

What do you think this dream means?

The very basic interpretation of this dream that I gave is that "there is something in your marriage that you don't want to look at."

The dream also suggests that she knew there were problems even before they were married but she hadn't wanted to see them.

The lady agreed that her marriage had been less than happy for a long time and that they had had a lot of problems. I wasn't told anymore details than that but she said I'd hit the nail on the head - the lady became quiet and thoughtful and there was a deep feeling of sadness.

I had done my job; the lady was now conscious that there were some problems that needed addressing and it would be pretty impossible to unlearn that knowledge. I don't know how things went but I would bet she had a long think about her marriage.

It's often harder for us to see our dream meaning for ourselves even when it is presented in an easy to understand way because we don't want to acknowledge the problem. That's where a dream interpretation can be useful. We can also take steps to become more honest with ourselves.
